As an adult I love this game just as much as I did as a child! The game was released late at night, around the time I wanted to go to bed, and I was disappointed that I only got to briefly play it before doing so. Maybe, playing as an adult, the game’s flaws would be huge and distracting. I began to fear, after reading so many negative things about it, that maybe nostalgia had blurred my memory and that it w asn’t the shining beacon of high quality gaming that I remembered it as. Personally I wouldn't call a set awful just because I only liked 90% of it.Now, you often hear bad things about Donkey Kong 64, things along the lines of “it’s just a pointless collectathon”, “it’s too much like Banjo-Kazooie” or “it’s too long and tedious!” but I always remembered it as a superb game. If you make sure you use the same character to purchase all the non kong-specific upgrades it's easy to track down who's coins your missing.Įither way theres no shame in not going for 100%. The one you gotta worry about most is actually the collect all coins achievement. Especially since this allows the character swap with no tag barrel mod. Taking the achievements as they come instead of letting the scope of the entire game weigh on you before you start gives a way different perspective imo. But I find a lot of sets in general seem scary until you're playing the game. The most questionable one of the set, flying to the top of K.rool's ship using Diddy, does require you watch a video to know the route you need to take to avoid the invisible no-jetpack walls but it's not so bad either.ĭunno, I get it 'cuz DK64 was the first set I played on this site and the missables made me nervous at first. (Fast forward hotkey is allowed in case you didn't know) And K.rool is a long fight but he's generally not gonna surprise you once you memorized his patterns. The spinning ice maze damageles was a bit challenging but it's a short moment that's really quick to just die and try again. Not killing Kosha doesn't really change the level a whole lot. Well for example jump up superstar the solution is simply to just move a rock behind the temple and backflipping off of it.
